Hi guys,

Sorry – just got an update from some friends in the quizzing fraternity that the World Quizzing Champs is slated to happen on June 7, 2008 all across the globe – No info on this in the quizzing groups yet, I wonder why??

In light of that above fact, the IQL meeting (originally scheduled for June 7) stands rescheduled to June 8, 2008 – Venue is CCD at IIT Madras, Time is 4PM (its gonna be a Super Sunday).

Apologies for the inconvenience and thanks for the understanding.

Hi,

The Next meeting of the IQL would be on 7th June 2008 at 5PM at the
CCD, IIT madras.

As usual the theme for the Quiz is Current affairs/ events 2007-2008
in line with our campaign LEAP towards Landmark (Quiz).

We would have a special quiz by Varun, followed by a quickie from
yours truly, then we would be going round the table.

So I request everyone interested to contribute ten questions, as
usual.

calendar year has these months?

2. We all know what for the Emmy, Oscar, Grammy are awarded. What
about Annie?

While Graeme Smith was pounding and spanking the Chennai Super Kings, the IQL had a field day – and what a day! We had a Bollywood-Kollywood Quiz by two noobs, Sanandan and Sridhar.

Newcomers augur well for an upcoming Quiz club, and we had as many as 4 of those (Sridhar, Karthik Kumar/KK, Shiva & our new friend from Bangalore, Sabarish).

Sana and Sri immediately took center stage at 5.00 PM (We had an early start to the meet, and this would continue from here on). There were 8 of us (minus our normal college gang but still a sizeable number – Sana & Sri, JK, Ananthu, Hantan, KN, KK, Shiva & Sabarish).

At the IQL we aren’t exactly Gandhians, but we began with this IQL meet with an intention to have fun as well as keep the competitive interests going – so we set scores/ points for correct answers. JK obviously was in T20 mode and started dealing in sixes before any of us could even open our accounts. Ananthu was in good form too, I followed them in third spot and KK made some pretty good attempts.

K-B-C: The Kollywood-Bollywood Con-Quest

Quality questions, anguish on the faces of many of us when we didn’t get easy questions, Shiva entertaining us with a hat trick of minus points, Hantan’s wild guesses and of course, great buzzer questions marked a totally brilliant day at the IQL.

Questions ranged from identifying the singer, buzzer rounds of songs – identify the movie/ song (background scores), connection between videos and movie posters and lots more on both Kollywood and Bollywood. It was a good medley with lots of audios and videos.

Lessons Learnt:

As Sana said, we need to keep our creative juices flowing and keep guessing. In a high quality quiz, the ability to guess would surely come in handy, especially when you want to reach higher up the quizzing ladder.

Plus we need to work more on our current affairs on our “LEAP towards Landmark”. We would be working more on that motto in our future IQL meetings.

Overall, a good day for the IQL members – thanks & kudos to Sana and Sridhar for a good quiz.

We are looking forward to the next meeting already.
