MIRCHI——— “Clash of Corporates” Day 2 – Finals

(By Priyanka Parthasarathy)

As the storm in the Bay of Bengal was brewing, so was the fervour of the corporates, all geared up for the cultural extravaganza, organized by Radio Mirchi.The show titled “Clash of Corporates” was held at the Kalaivanar Arangam, with the main aim of bringing back the joy of college life. And when it is fun, can IQL be far behind? No way!! Arre, we were hosting the Biz quiz – our magnum opus so to say..

The finals were held on Day 2 of the fest, with eight teams on stage. The following were the teams on the dais:

(1) Sanmar Group

(2) Nokia

(3) TCS

(4) CTS

(5) KPMG

(6) Infosys (replacing the TCS 2 team as they could not make it to the event) and

(7) Two teams from Citibank.

There were totally five rounds. The first three rounds were hosted by Vinod, who maintained his cool, despite poor, or should I say, too much lighting that kept interrupting the show. Round 1 allowed teams to choose questions from the grid. The team from Sanmar began with a bang, by answering both the questions that came their way. Round 2 called the “Chicane”, proved no speed breaker with almost all teams on stage fairing equally well. Round 3 had both business and Mirchi related anagrams, increasing the inquisitiveness among the Mirchi staffs too.

The ensuing rounds were hosted by Sylvian Patrick. The penultimate round ensured that the team from Sanmar took a clear lead. The final round was the visual round, which effused enthusiasm among people, on and off stage. The show went on well, despite few technical glitches. Kudos to the quiz masters for holding on to their nerves and hosting the quiz with élan. The Sanmar team won the quiz hands down. KPMG and Citibank were tied for second place, with Citibank breaking the tie and emerging runners up.

Despite this fest being held by a large corporate group in association with several other bigwigs, it left one wondering about the poor turnout. The auditorium bore a deserted look, most of the time. Apart from repeated change of event dates and venue, many felt the lack of propaganda was the reason for this poor response. Then again, the prize money, which was a mystery to even the organizers, I think was another factor for crowd not turning up – add to that events running over two days, rains in Chennai, and you know now why hot tea and pakoras are a better bet for many…

Having said all that, nothing could dampen the enthusiasm of the quizzers who turned up – they totally made us feel at home and eventually it was QUIZZING that won!

3. subs - October 22, 2008

@Priya

Should we ask for opinions and comments? ..he he he he..

4. venkateshna - October 22, 2008

The quiz was decent. Guess we could have had it @ BRIO instead of a kalaivanar arangam with empty seats on a day when Gaptan’s followers were creating chaos

5. Andy - October 22, 2008

Gaptan vazhga….

6. Andy - October 22, 2008

Infosys went on to replace the second team from TCS because they could not make it. Infy was represented by Yaggi and he sat there alone for 2 rounds till Kartick Ramdas joined him. It was funny at first. A one man team taking on toughies. They did manage to finish in the top 6 however. It was a good effort from them.

Can’t wait for the BIMQuest quiz review. I am not going to forget the finals of that quiz in a hurry.

@ Prianka

Finals : The ICI question , ananthu mentioned it to me, but i thought ITC was a better guess and went for it

Ramki had no clue abt playboy, Ananthu loudmouthed it and gave it to him on a platter

Google laser thing,Ananthu knew it , but I thought it was too simple and tought there would be some hi fi funda and messed it up

Ananthu : This happens to every team; we were still lucky to qualify when stud teams like Mitesh, Aravind Rammiah, Swami sumo, Yagy didn’t even qualify. So 5K is a bonus

@Venkateshna

Ramki had no clue abt playboy, Ananthu loudmouthed it and gave it to him on a platter

- ha ha ha ha ha..great.We did have couple of correct answers.(Now we know how)

Google laser thing,Ananthu knew it , but I thought it was too simple and tought there would be some hi fi funda and messed it up

-Yup, was simple and straight.

This happens to every team; we were still lucky to qualify when stud teams like Mitesh, Aravind Rammiah, Swami sumo, Yagy didn’t even qualify. So 5K is a bonus

-Agreed :)

12. Karthik Narayan - October 23, 2008

@ Andy – no clue as to what you mean by FINALS, so give us some idea of what you are saying.

@ Venkateshna – yeah i guess u got the best of Pantan out there at the quiz – shouting out answers, writing em on a piece of paper and losing the paper lolz

@ all – u guys didnt take photos???????????

13. Karthik Narayan - October 23, 2008

@ Andy & venkateshna – hey u guys won – congrats and wherez our treat???

14. hantan - November 1, 2008

@kn
Since when were photos taken??? half the events go without photos despite concluding at the previous post quiz analysis that a photo has to be taken…
@subs.
next time IQL conducts a quiz, if you dont bring that famed U.S friend’s camera of yours, i’ll personally come and take it from you..
@ pria..
nice write up.. instead of a review, it should be a report. Review must be written by an outsider, we write reports..
@all
I’m back.. (proxy rulessss….)

15. subs - November 1, 2008

@hantan

By now,you should have realized that the camera has apparently been “snatched” away!!..grr..rr

16. Karthik Narayan - November 4, 2008

@ Hantan: Photos are taken at almost all the meetings. Maybe the last couple of meetings, we have missed out on posting them. But yes, will ensure photos are uploaded.

@ Subs: get a new camera, else take Pantan’s. He anyway is not using it at all…
