After the roller-coaster ride of a quiz in Mirchi (at least for me), I headed to Accord Metropolitan with Vinod for the BIMQUEST, organized by BharathiDasan Institute of Management and hosted by Giri ‘Pick Brain’ Balasubramaniam.

The prelims in BIMQUEST is usually a written affair. We used call it the “The Flap” prelims because of the flap type printed format.

The prelim was relatively easy one but I really made great mess out of it. Missing out on Viacom, Hummer and Edelweiss were unpardonable from my side.

The finalists were not a surprise package with usual suspects like Sanmar’s Deepesh and RamKumar Shankar, KPMG’s Ramki and Team. There was a little surprise because some high profile teams missed out. IQL’s Anant and Venkatesh did a good job to qualify for the finals.

Any quiz in Chennai always going to be tough because of the quality of the teams. But BIM Quest final was way above the tough trademark.

The finals started with a traditional dry round and the first few questions were answered by audience. Most of the questions were answered either by the quiz master or the audience. After a particular point of time, the teams were reluctant to take risks. The audience didn’t have anything to lose so they went on make guesses and some even good answers like Narasus Coffee.

The first and second team had to be chosen on a tie-break. I always liked the way Ramkumar answers. He said “I like Ramki a lot, so I am giving it to him”. KPMG won the quiz because Sanmar faltered on Sten gun.

There were some extremely arbit questions like the second connection about some world group for wild life (I am yet figure it out- pardon me if I am wrong) and also good questions like ICI Paints. I had a mixed feeling after the quiz. It was like you watch a Christopher Nolan movie and you end up having two different views of the same thing.

When I was walking out of the hall, one of the finalists was saying to his friend “Come on, man I could not understand half of the questions”. My take – “Quizzers, it’s for you to decide”

P.S: The IQL team was actually discussing Christopher Nolan before the finals.
