(Karthik Narayan)

The first time I am trying a themed Hindu Mythology quiz.

The theme is: The Un-Spoken words

1. This celestial dance comprises of the following manifestations of eternal energy: Shrishti, sthiti, Samharam, Tirobhava and Anugraha. Simply identify.

2. The Hindu scriptures divide this into three levels or phases; 1. the transcendal level or the Paramaarthika; 2. the pragmatic level or the vyavahaarika and 3. the apparent level or the Pratibhaasika. Hint: apparently it get tested every now and then through human virtues and habits.

If I, KN, can make Mr.Kipling twist in his grave…

If you can dream – and not make dreams your master;
If you can think – and not make thoughts your aim;

If you can meet with triumph and disaster
And treat those two imposters just the same;

If you can hear the questions you want answers for,
Twisted by googlers to trap questionable characters;

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it all on a Saturday (March 28, 2009;

And lose, only to start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;

And so quiz on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which tells you to: “Quiz on“;

If you can fill the unforgiving hour (3.30-4.30 PM)
With sixty minutes’ worth of questions tackled

Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And – which is more – you’ll be a Quizzer, my son!

If you are able to answer the following questions, you may want to hang out this saturday, at 3.30 PM at the Indra Nagar CCD in Chennai for the next IQL meeting.

1. He was known as Gudakesha, meaning the conqueror of sleep, a name given to him after he started practising archery skills in the dead of night. Which hindu mythology character?

2. Where would you find the original (and a much better) version of the above poem?

If you didn’t get the above…

1. Arjuna, the pandava
2. At the entrance to Wimbledon centre court

BTW for nosey parkers who want the original poem:

Cabala and Harish said they have 10 questions, KN and me also chirped the same thing. Sana nodded his head in the affirmative as well. Yaggy and Murthy joined us in the meantime..We were just 7.

As far as I remember, this week’s IQL was the least attended by the junta in Chennai, you can blame it on the exams, the EPL, hot bajji’s, Vadivelu comedy scenes or a religious procession carried out by some inane political party…

We all took our places inside the cool environs of CCD Indira Nagar, thanks to the bloke (the store manager, I reckon), who offered us the much needed air-conditioning and the power for the lap-top.

All of did short, snappy quizzes which was posed to an open house, as the quorom made team-formation a worthless excercise. The questions were of great standard and couple of ones from Cabala, Yaggy and Harish really made everyone appreciate their research.

We hope to have more people next time…

From this review onwards we have decided to post 5 questions, that were asked in the respective meetings. Please leave the answers as comments and we’ll post the correct answers with the succeding week’s review.

Questions from this week’s meet:

Hope to see you at the next meeting. Keep watching this blog for more details; as always :)
