By hosting this quiz, a little piece of history had been created – this was officially the first Twitter Live Quiz in the entire world. That’s a perhaps the biggest feather so far in IQL’s hat!!

IQL is continuing the good job by hosting an online Twitter Quiz which can be accessed on twitter.com/oceansiql

Kidscafe quiz on July 25 – a round-up July 27, 2009

The IQL hosted the kidscafe quiz for the second time running, on 25th July 2009. It was a fun filled event, an evening enjoyed thoroughly by the kids and by us.

The quiz masters for the day were Malculuffin and Hantan (self). KN handled the slides and the official scorer for the day was Lakshmi (KN’s wife). The quiz was held at the Accord Metropolitan, a choicy venue with a transient ambience and wonderful lighting. Malc and I were giving the finishing touches to the presentation when a few curious (cute would be the appropriate word but its a quiz report you see) kids started trickling inside and gracefully chose seats and sat with an air that commanded respect. As the number of kids started increasing, the length of my smile also increased in direct proportion, the prospect of the fun that was about to begin looming deliciously in front of my eyes.

After everyone settled down, Malc took the stage and introduced us, and gave a small introduction about IQL and set a few ground rules for the quiz and started off with the quiz. Kids were divided into teams and they came up with cute teamnames, the kind that reminds you of the name we used to give for ourselves in similar competitions. What followed were five rounds of pure fun! The quiz was full of visuals, very few dry questions and two interactive rounds. The challenge round saw teams vying to get themselves challenged with the decibel levels reaching quite a frenzy. A few guesses by various teams left the whole room in splits and the enthu showed by the kids was at its infectious best.

Malc was dignity personnified and the way he handled the event left this co-quizmaster reaffirm the fact that Malcu shall be his favorite quizmaster for a long time to come. I duly played the second fiddle and did my best to match the standard set by him. The dumb charades round was more of a dance show where teams were trying to mimic famous personalities and the round ended leaving a room full of laughing faces and hands full of multiple chocolates.

The organizers were there to help us and we thank them for being a really great help throughout the event.

To sum up, it was a fun filled b’day present for KN, presented to him a day in advance. A wonderful show, by the kids and thanks a ton to them for making our day.

P.S: just for the record, Team Chennai Superstars came first while Team Strawberry came second.

(review by KN)

Malcaluffin the Magnificent made us all shudder – it was either his “online” presence and the reputation he held or the skull picture on his t-shirt. To imitate the amiable Rahul Dravid, On the popular quiz blogs, first there is God. Then there is Malcaluffin!!

This edition of the Champs League was also the farewell for Raghuvansh who was leaving for the US for his MS. So also Ajay who was in his last weekend tango with Chennai. The hot and humid sun did not deter us. Us here denotes Yaggy, Matti, Gopal Kidao, Renu, Ramana, Sana, Hantan, Murthy, Roopam, Raghuvansh, Arun, Ajay and me. Whoever won today would surely have the upper hand, for this script was a totally new one compared to last season. Amongst the regulars, only person who did not come was Sylvian who had to go to office on saturday to attend a quiz!!

The questions were of high standards – to cater to the many quality quizzers and to butter the respect that Malcs had earned. While 30 questions stared us in the face, answers did not.

10 questions into the quiz, Murthy, Roopam and Hantan came in looking like guys who had missed half the movie. When the 30 questions were done, we had a very quick recap. 4 points per correct question with some part points up for grabs, we all hoped to get closer to the magical number of 50-60 to stay in the hunt.

In the end, it was Ramana yet again who shone like the diamond ring of a solar eclipse. Gopal Kidao gave a strong fight to get to 56; Raghuvansh, Arun, Matti, Sana, Yaggy all weren’t far behind. I scored exactly half of Ramana’s score – 36.

Overall, a good set of questions, a great reprive for Patrick (inspite of all this, he did not win the quiz in his office!!) and a good hearty thanks to all those who turned up and for Vinod H for the great quiz.

This season of the Champions League is very quickly warming up for a grand showdown – with Ramana winning two editions, the best is yet to come out of the rest of us quizzers.

Some questions from the edition

Hordes of activities on the IQL calendar this July and August – starting with the IQL Champions League Ver 2.4 on July 18, 2009. Vinod Hariharan, the proud winner of the last edition by Mr.V.V.Ramanan, is the host for this version.

Vinod Hariharan, best known by his nickname Malcaluffin needs no introduction in quizzing circles. If there was a frequent flier program on boiled beans, food for thought and similar blogs, Malcs would have made them bankrupt!! We have all seen him score those big sixers and fours on the food for thought blog, but how many have seen him as a quizmaster? Well, here’s your biggest chance!

The IQL Champs League Ver 2.3 is all set to rock you… are you ready?
