We are not quite sure about the possibility of this happening…
But this is surely on the cards.
Yes folks, the Greatest Show on IQL is back!! And one of the finest quizzers (does he need an introduction guys?) is hosting this edition of the Champions League on Saturday, 4PM at R.A.Puram at No.8, 2nd Floor, Corporation Complex, Diagonally opposite to Kaliappa Hospital (Billroth) or directly opposite to Tic Tac Videos/ Arun Ice cream parlour.
Folklore says even a new born child will know this famed quizzer, but for the newbies on this blog, this is Mr.Vinod Hariharan, aka Malcaluffin.
Please bring a pen along and please BE ON TIME. We would like to start the quiz on time.
Thanks,
Team IQL
Round-up of the Champs League by Ramana September 29, 2009

It was a super saturday – a double bill for cricket and quiz lovers! Ramana’s Champions League quiz and an India-Pakistan match was a delightful combination for sure. Sana, Malcaluffin (bday babe), me, Yaggy, Patrick, Matti, Anirudh, Pranav Guru and Mr.Guru, Hari rounded up the group that attended the quiz.
The quizmaster for the day V.V.Ramanan, a veteran of many a quiz was ready with his battery of questions. There were 30 questions in all – the winner would become the Champ for an entire month and would get to host the next edition. Halfway through the quiz, some of us realised that the questions were simple – most of the questions were one-line, factual questions. And most of us were not sure if we had opened our accounts yet!!
The questions were top notch and covered almost all topics you could think of. The top score was a mere 34 (out of a possible maximum 120 with four questions per correct answer). Just 2 points separated the top three of this edition of the Champs League – so it was touch and go for many. I scored a paltry 10, whereas Patrick scored a big zero. Definitely not our day!!
Thanks Ramana for the great quiz from all of us – for taking the time out of your preparations for the Young World Quiz that starts next week.
Congrats and happy birthday once again to Malcaluffin for top scoring with 34. A perfect b’day gift! Now we wait eagerly for the next edition…

(review by KN)
Malcaluffin the Magnificent made us all shudder – it was either his “online” presence and the reputation he held or the skull picture on his t-shirt. To imitate the amiable Rahul Dravid, On the popular quiz blogs, first there is God. Then there is Malcaluffin!!
This edition of the Champs League was also the farewell for Raghuvansh who was leaving for the US for his MS. So also Ajay who was in his last weekend tango with Chennai. The hot and humid sun did not deter us. Us here denotes Yaggy, Matti, Gopal Kidao, Renu, Ramana, Sana, Hantan, Murthy, Roopam, Raghuvansh, Arun, Ajay and me. Whoever won today would surely have the upper hand, for this script was a totally new one compared to last season. Amongst the regulars, only person who did not come was Sylvian who had to go to office on saturday to attend a quiz!!
The questions were of high standards – to cater to the many quality quizzers and to butter the respect that Malcs had earned. While 30 questions stared us in the face, answers did not.
10 questions into the quiz, Murthy, Roopam and Hantan came in looking like guys who had missed half the movie. When the 30 questions were done, we had a very quick recap. 4 points per correct question with some part points up for grabs, we all hoped to get closer to the magical number of 50-60 to stay in the hunt.
In the end, it was Ramana yet again who shone like the diamond ring of a solar eclipse. Gopal Kidao gave a strong fight to get to 56; Raghuvansh, Arun, Matti, Sana, Yaggy all weren’t far behind. I scored exactly half of Ramana’s score – 36.
Overall, a good set of questions, a great reprive for Patrick (inspite of all this, he did not win the quiz in his office!!) and a good hearty thanks to all those who turned up and for Vinod H for the great quiz.
This season of the Champions League is very quickly warming up for a grand showdown – with Ramana winning two editions, the best is yet to come out of the rest of us quizzers.
Some questions from the edition

Hordes of activities on the IQL calendar this July and August – starting with the IQL Champions League Ver 2.4 on July 18, 2009. Vinod Hariharan, the proud winner of the last edition by Mr.V.V.Ramanan, is the host for this version.
Vinod Hariharan, best known by his nickname Malcaluffin needs no introduction in quizzing circles. If there was a frequent flier program on boiled beans, food for thought and similar blogs, Malcs would have made them bankrupt!! We have all seen him score those big sixers and fours on the food for thought blog, but how many have seen him as a quizmaster? Well, here’s your biggest chance!
The IQL Champs League Ver 2.3 is all set to rock you… are you ready?

Date: July 18, 2009, Saturday

Upgrade to the latest version by being there!!
